About Time Machine
Time Machine is Mac's built-in backup tool that automatically backs up your files, photos, music, applications, and system files.
Recover Individual Files
- Connect Time Machine backup disk
- Open Time Machine app (or click menu bar icon > Enter Time Machine)
- Use timeline or arrows to browse to desired restore point
- Find and select the file
- Click "Restore" button
Recover Entire System
- Restart Mac and hold Command + R to enter Recovery Mode
- Select "Restore from Time Machine Backup"
- Select backup disk and time point
- Wait for restoration to complete
Recover Specific App Data
- Open target app (e.g., Mail, Photos)
- Click Time Machine icon in menu bar
- Select "Open [App Name] from Time Machine"
- Browse and select data to restore
